Narrative
Mr. MacLeod was born on Oct. 2, 1938, in Providence, R.I., to Mary Burnam Bennett MacLeod and Ellsworth Allan MacLeod. He was a graduate of Moses Brown Preparatory School, Providence, R.I., and Rollins College, Winter Park, Fla., where he played varsity tennis. He received his Masters Degree from the University of Arizona and his Ph.D. from the University of Missouri, Columbia, Mo.
Dr. MacLeod was a professor of English at Christopher Newport University until his retirement in 1998. Continuing his lifelong love of world travel, he then went to the People's Republic of China and taught college classes there for three years.
Mr. MacLeod is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Field MacLeod Guillemette and her husband, John, and two grandsons, John David Guillemette III and Logan Matthew Guillemette of Ormond Beach, Fla. He is also survived by his brother, Daniel Bennett MacLeod, and three nieces of Charlestown, R.I.; his sister, Isabel MacLeod Burggraaff of Columbia, Mo.; and his friend, Larry Shelton of Newport News.
Mr. MacLeod was formerly married to Anne S. MacLeod, and, she and the family will receive friends Thursday, June 24, at Peninsula Funeral Home from six to eight in the evening.
