He was also a graduate of Augustana, and then earned his PhD in chemistry from the U. of Minnesota. They have lived in Naperville, Illinois for most of their lives, and have two children: Laura, born in 1962, and Dan, born in 1965. Laura and Dan are both married, and each has two kids.
